With 65 km in length by only 8 km of maximum width and occupying an area of 246 km2, the long island of São Jorge is located in the center of 3 islands, Terceira, Graciosa and Pico, 21, 19 and 10 miles.
Its area is divided by two municipalities in whose headquarters, the villages of Calheta and Velas, and its parishes, you can still appreciate interesting buildings with rich architectural and cultural traces, although the heritage of this island has been severely affected by various and over time, by violent seismic crises.
