The prize now awarded to Praia da Vit\u00f3ria – which included three other municipalities in the Azores (Madalena do Pico, Horta and Ribeira Grande), in a total of 35 national municipalities – is related to the recovery process of the “Pauis” of the city.<\/p>\n

This project, called LIFE CWR and co-financed by community funds, has made a decisive contribution to Praia da Vit\u00f3ria’s “sustainability and environmental quality”, emphasizing “the ecological restoration of fauna and flora habitats, community awareness, tourism potential and scientific research”.<\/p>\n

“The Paul da Praia da Vit\u00f3ria is for environmental sustainability, which is one of the representatives of Portugal in the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, also known as the Ramsar Convention.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of Paul da Vit\u00f3ria’s recovery project in 2004, an exhaustive study of the characteristics of its soil was elaborated. The results are public, they are deposited for consultation in the Repository of the University of the Azores and do not present any value higher than that determined in the legislation or international conventions”.<\/p>\n
