Located in the parish of Maia, Ribeira Grande, this factory has been operating since 1883 and has been owned by the same family for several generations. After several tea planting experiences in some parishes in the north of São Miguel, Gorreana was chosen for the quality of its land that gave the tea a unique flavor.
The Gorreana Tea Factory is not just a factory. Its building is surrounded by 32 hectares of tea plants that create a unique atmosphere in the place. Few things have changed in the place since 1883. There, visitors can get into a time machine until the 19th century and even participate in collecting the precious leaves.
The factory is also a museum. A living museum! It is not only possible to see old documents and manufacturing processes, but also some machines of excellent construction that date back to the 19th century and are still in operation. And nothing better than tasting the best tea of a lifetime, after a fantastic visit to a factory that is almost 150 years old. Or, before tasting the tea, relax on the official trail that surrounds this entire industrial complex.Images: Paulino Pavão
