Due to weather conditions or maintenance work, some trails may be closed. Before you leave, get your information.
Make sure that the difficulty of the track suits your age and physical condition.
Adapt your footwear and clothing to the trail. Remember: the Azores have mountain areas with great thermal amplitudes. In the mountain areas, the great sunset with a nice temperature, no wind and stunning views can change quickly for a night of low temperatures, rain and wind.
If you do not feel confident to make the trail, contact specialist companies. The companies have knowledge of the terrain and certified guides and will make your tour a great experience.
Do not rely on mobile phones! During the walk, the coverage in the area may not be reliable or non-existent.
Many of the walks pass through protected areas. Respect the nature and its biodiversity and always bring the trash with you. There are trails that, due to the presence of endangered species, require prior authorization for the walk.
Before starting a trail, fully charge the batteries of your mobile devices (phone, tablets, GPS, etc.).
Never make a trail alone.
If you use the parking lots do not leave valuables in sight. Robberies in parking lots are very rare in the Azores, but prevention is your responsibility.
In case of an emergency call 112.
